Many times, it might happen with you, that even if yours content is good, your page is not ranked first or not shown on the first page of the search.
There is well-known phrase – Content is king. Yes, indeed it is, but if we don’t do On-Page SEO properly, it is difficult to get ranking in the search engine.
I am going to concentrate on On-page SEO techniques. Here, i have shared very basic On-page Seo techniques for beginners.
You can do small-little changes in your website and try to rank and bring organic traffic to your website.
We will see how to optimize it, so that we can rank our article or blog post in the search engine. I will talk about all the details needed for On-page SEO.

We can do SEO of any webpage or blog or article by 2 options:
- On-Page SEO
- Off-Page SEO
From these two types, On-page SEO is very important. Everyone should give more importance to on-page SEO techniques.
If you don’t optimize your page in a proper way, you won’t be able to get ranking of your web page in the search engine.
No matter, how many back links you create, it won’t work. No matter how many social followers you have, it won’t work.
So, it’s better that we work on On-Page SEO.
WHAT IS On-Page SEO?
Well, If we are able to high rank our webpage or blog post, through optimization and were able to generate organic traffic, that is called On-page SEO.
Through On-page SEO, we can optimize the content as well as the html source code.
On-page SEO is a complete task, where you have to optimize (title, meta tags, multi-media, url, keyword placement, content length, web page design) of the web page.
You also have to optimize internal links and outbound links. We will see all these tasks in detail.
If you are able to optimize these about task in your web-page, then you would be able to rank you web-page or articles at the top of search engines.
Below are 10 On-page SEO Checklist. Follow this check to generate organic traffic to your website.
(1) Creating a High Quality Content
If you ask any SEO expert about ranking your web-page at the top of the search engines, you will get one answer: Make high quality content articles. Content is king.
Every day lakhs of blog are created, many articles are published. So, it becomes so important to have high quality content article first, then proceed further.
In High quality content, only words don’t matter. You should also use multimedia as well.
First of all, decide on what niche your blog post or article you want to write. Google the niche or topic you are interested in.
Look at the top 10 search results. From this search you would get 2 things. First, you would get an idea about the content.
Second, you would be able to decide what title i keep of my article.
Have a thorough understanding about the topic. Then make long articles for your blog.
Now, how we would be able to ensure that we are writing high quality content? Don’t worry, i have an answer. Just answer yourself the below questions.
- Is my content 1000 words long?
- Are there any images, videos or eye catching element in my article?
- Is the grammar of my content correct?
- Whether the formatting of the text is proper or not?
- Is the text on my page readable or not? ( you need to ensure that paragraphs of your article are short)
- Whether the content can be shared on social media?
- Whether proper internal and external links there in the article?
If your answer to every above question is yes, then your content is ready for search engine. If No, please ensure above questions are solved.
(3) Use the target keyword in Title tag
In On-page SEO, after optimizing content, it is important to optimize the Title of your article. Search engine always displays the title of webpage.
It is important to use your target keyword, as more as possible, so that you can increase the value of it in the search engine.
If you are not able to use target keyword in the starting of the title, please ensure that at least once you are using it in the title.
Your title should be unique. Please ensure that whatever title you are giving to your article, is not already present.
(3) Use modifier in Title
Best, latest, Top 10, tutorial, quick guide, 2018 are few examples of modifiers which you can use in the title. Use of such modifiers enhances the search of your article. Ranking also improves.
(4) Make your URL SEO friendly
First 3 to 5 words of the Url is very important. Make you URL as short as possible. Always use Target keywords in the URL
(5) Title in <H1> heading tag
SEO heading tag <h1> is very important. In the Body Section of the web page, to display the title <H1> tags are used.
In most of the word press themes, <h1> is automatically added. But, in many free wordpress and BlogSpot template, it is not place properly.
So, first of all check in the source code of the webpage that title is in <h1> tag. If not place it properly.
In many themes it has been seen that many <h1> tags are used. This gets little confusing. So, if you see too many <h1> tags. Remove it and just keep only one <h1> tag.
(6) Use keyword in first 100 words
Whatever keyword you want to rank, should be used in first 100 -200 words of your article or blog post. This is very important.
Many people create a long post, but they don’t use target keyword or use it in the last. This will create problem for search engine to find your article. So, please use it in starting of your article.
Using your keyword in the first 100 words gives a strong signal and also increases the value of your post.
You should include Long-tail key words in your article.

(7) Use sub- heading tags
After the Web page title, sub heading should be properly used. This helps us in Google ranking. In sub heading, you should use related key words.
In every post, at least 2 times sub heading should be used. In many wordpress and blogspot themes, the title of widget is used as sub heading. If such things are there in your source code, please fix it.
(8) Use meta-description
In the search engine, whatever little description you see below the title, is called meta-description.
In the meta-description, you should you target keyword at least once. The length of meta-description should be at least 180-200 characters.
(9) Reduce the bounce rate
Bounce rate means how many times visitors come to you website and after looking at the first page, they leave. You can see the bounce rate of your website by using a tool called google analytics tool.
When the bounce rates are more, search engine gets a negative feedback.
Below are the few steps which you can follow to lower down bounce rates of your website:
- Improve the content readability.
- Remove any pop-up from your website
- Create call-to-action button in your website
- Increase the brand trust from the content you create
- Publish fresh content on your website
- Make your meta-description attractive
- Make multiple landing pages from high-volume keywords
- Increase the loading time of your website
- External links should be set such that it opens in new window
- Author box should be created in your blog.
(10) Use Outbound Links
In your website, only text don’t matters, you should also put links of authority websites to build a trust between you and your visitor.
Putting external links proves that you have done some research on a particular topic.
Many people, think that putting external links indicates that you sending your visitor to other website. But that is not true. It increases trust.
When we read any book, many times we see that author has given reference of other research or reference of other books. So, give reasonable links in your website.
Follow, these above 10 rules, and you will clearly improve the ranking of your website.
